XaaS stands for “everything-as-a-service.” It is a collective term that refers to the delivery of a wide variety of technology products and tools. Just like in Algebra, X could be anything and everything. The premise of XaaS is that any function involving the Internet can be turned into a service for the consumption of enterprises. For instance, instead of setting up your own servers, you can get the services of virtual private server providers. The same is true for other IT needs. Some examples of XaaS are software-as-a-service (SaaS), infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), and platform-as-a-service (PaaS).” – Techslang

SaaS (Software-as-as-Solution) – Is a licensing model in which access to software is provided on a subscription basis, where the software is located on external servers rather than on servers located in-house. The rise of SaaS coincided with the rise of cloud-based computing.

HaaS (Hardware-as-as-Solution) – Is a procurement model that is smiliar to leasing or licensing in which hardware that belongs to a Managed Service Provider (MSP) is installed at a client’s site and a service level agreement (SLA) defines the responsibilities of both parties. Sometimes the client pays a monthly fee for using the hardware; sometimes its use is incorporated into the monthly fee structure for installing, monitoring and maintaining the hardware. Either way, if the hardware breaks down or becomes outdated, the MSP is responsible for decommissioning it and replacing it. Depending upon the terms of the SLA, decommissioning may include wiping proprietary data, physically destroying hard drives and certifying that old equipment has been recycled legally.

DaaS (Desktop-as-a-Solution) – Is a cloud-based desktop virtualization service hosted by a third-party enterprise. The third-party cloud provider manages all the back-end resources, such as desktop storage, compute and networking, including the virtual cloud machines that run the desktop operating systems. The desktop as a solution provider streams the virtual desktops to end-user devices, allowing any time, anywhere access to desktops and applications. Like most cloud solutions, DaaS is subscription-based in a multi-tenant environment. Organizations can also deploy a desktop infrastructure in a private cloud in a local data center.
